UTM Link Builder
Add campaign source, medium, name, term and content to any URL while keeping its existing parameters.
How to use the UTM Link Builder
- Paste the full destination URL, including https://.
- Fill in the required campaign source, medium and name. Add term and content only if you use them.
- Optionally tick the lowercase option so values are consistent across campaigns.
- Copy the tracked URL and use it in your email, ad or social post.
Good to know
- Parameter order is stable: your existing parameters, then utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign, utm_term, utm_content.
- Existing query parameters are copied exactly as written rather than re-encoded. Only the UTM parameters this tool sets are removed (any case, including duplicates) and added again.
- UTM parameters you leave blank are not touched. If the URL already holds one (for example utm_id), it is kept and you are told.
- UTM values are case-sensitive in most analytics tools (“Email” and “email” are reported separately), so pick one style or use the lowercase option.
- Avoid putting personal data in UTM values: they appear in URLs, logs and analytics reports.
Examples
- Newsletter link
- https://example.com/pricing with source newsletter, medium email, campaign spring_sale becomes https://example.com/pricing?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=spring_sale.
- Existing parameters
- https://example.com/pricing?plan=pro keeps plan=pro first, then the UTM parameters are appended. A #fragment stays at the end.
- Conflict
- If the URL already has utm_source=old, the tool replaces it with your new value and lists exactly what it replaced.
Frequently asked questions
Which UTM parameters are required?
This tool requires source, medium and campaign name, the three most analytics setups expect. Term (paid keywords) and content (to distinguish similar links) are optional.
Should I use UTM links for links within my own website?
Generally no. Internal UTM links can overwrite the original traffic source of a visit in your analytics. Use them for links that bring people to your site from elsewhere.
Is the link sent anywhere when I build it?
No. The URL is built in your browser using the standard URL API and is not transmitted or stored.
