Image Resizer

Resize images to exact dimensions with an optional locked aspect ratio, then export as PNG, JPEG or WebP.

How to use the Image Resizer

  1. Drag a PNG, JPEG or WebP image onto the drop area, or press “Choose image”. The original dimensions fill the width and height boxes.
  2. Type a new width or height. With “Lock aspect ratio” on, the other side updates automatically. Untick it to set both freely.
  3. Or use a quick size: 25%, 50%, 75% of the original, or a common width such as 1920 px.
  4. Choose the output format (and quality for JPEG or WebP), check the preview, then press Download.

Good to know

  • The locked side is calculated by scaling proportionally and rounding to the nearest whole pixel, with a minimum of 1 px, so an extreme ratio can differ from the original by a fraction of a pixel.
  • Sizes are whole pixels from 1 to 16,384 per side, up to 50 megapixels in total. Files can be up to 25 MB. Anything outside those limits is refused with a message.
  • Making an image larger than the original cannot add detail. The tool allows it but warns that it may look soft.
  • Resizing happens on your device using the browser's canvas. Nothing is uploaded or stored.
  • Converting to JPEG removes transparency (filled with a background colour you pick). JPEG and WebP are lossy; PNG is not.
  • EXIF metadata, including GPS location, is not copied to the exported file. Photos taken in portrait keep the correct orientation.

Examples

Shrink a 4000 × 3000 photo to 1600 px wide
Enter 1600 as the width with the ratio locked. The height becomes 1200. The preview shows the result and its file size before you download.
Exact square thumbnail
Untick the aspect-ratio lock and enter 256 × 256. A non-square original will look stretched, and the tool warns you when the ratio no longer matches.
Half-size copy of a screenshot
Press 50%. A 1920 × 1080 screenshot becomes 960 × 540, rounded to whole pixels.

Frequently asked questions

Does resizing reduce quality?

Making an image smaller discards pixels by design, though it usually looks fine at its new size. Saving as JPEG or WebP adds lossy compression on top; PNG does not. Enlarging an image makes it softer, not sharper.

Can I resize without keeping the proportions?

Yes. Untick “Lock aspect ratio” and enter any width and height. The image will be stretched or squashed to fit, and the tool tells you when the ratio has changed.

What is the maximum size I can create?

Up to 16,384 pixels on a side and 50 megapixels overall, because larger canvases can exhaust browser memory. Requests above that show an explanation instead of failing silently.

Is my image uploaded?

No. Reading, resizing and encoding all happen in your browser, and the downloaded file is created locally.
