Invoice Generator
Create a printable invoice with line items, discounts and tax, then save it as a PDF from your browser's print dialog.
How to use the Invoice Generator
- Enter your business details and the customer’s details, then set the invoice number, dates and currency.
- Add a line item for each product or service with a description, quantity and unit price. Add an overall discount and a tax rate if they apply.
- Check the preview. Totals update as you type, and anything that needs fixing is listed above the preview.
- Click “Print / Save as PDF” and choose “Save as PDF” as the destination in your browser’s print dialog.
Good to know
- Calculation order: line amount = quantity × unit price, rounded to the currency’s smallest unit; subtotal = sum of lines; discount comes off the subtotal; tax is applied to the discounted subtotal; total = subtotal − discount + tax.
- Rounding is half away from zero (so 0.5 of a cent rounds up). Quantity and unit price accept up to 4 decimals, tax up to 3, a percentage discount up to 2.
- There is one overall discount (a percentage or a fixed amount), not a discount per line. A fixed discount larger than the subtotal is rejected rather than silently reduced.
- Currencies use their standard minor units: two decimals for most, none for Japanese yen. Amounts are displayed with US-style number formatting.
- Nothing is saved. Your invoice lives only in this page, so closing or reloading it clears it. Use “Save as PDF” to keep a copy.
- This is a template, not tax or legal advice. It does not check that an invoice meets the invoicing, tax or e-invoicing requirements of any country; that remains your responsibility.
Examples
- Tax is charged after the discount
- Subtotal 100.00, 10% discount (−10.00), tax 8.25% on the remaining 90.00 = 7.43 (7.425 rounded up). Total 97.43.
- Quantities with decimals
- 1.5 hours at 19.99 = 29.985, rounded to 29.99 on that line. Rounding happens once per line, so the lines always add up to the subtotal shown.
- No floating-point surprises
- 0.10 + 0.20 gives exactly 0.30, and 3 × 33.33 gives exactly 99.99, because amounts are calculated as whole cents (or whole yen) rather than with floating-point numbers.
Frequently asked questions
How do I get a PDF?
Click Print / Save as PDF, then pick “Save as PDF” (or “Microsoft Print to PDF”) as the printer. Only the invoice preview is printed, not the rest of the page. Switching off “Headers and footers” in the dialog removes the browser’s own page header text.
Is my invoice data uploaded or stored?
No. The invoice is calculated and shown in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server and nothing is saved between visits.
Can I add more than one tax rate?
This version supports a single optional tax rate applied to the discounted subtotal. If you need several taxes, mention the breakdown in the notes and check how your local rules want it shown.
